What do terms like "on grid" and "grid tied" mean?

On-grid solar systems, also called "grid-tied" systems, are connected to the utility electrical network in your area. SunSource is an on-grid system designed to help you lower your utility operating costs and take advantage of incentives from utility companies. "Off-grid" refers to typically more expensive systems that are not connected to the utility electrical grid.
