HVAC system not working properly?
Question: Some rooms in my home are much warmer than they should be at this time of the year. I have my ceiling fans on high and my thermostat set to a very comfortable cool temperature. Is something not working properly??
Answer: This is not a unique issue in many Metro Atlanta households. A few likely culprits, that are easy to fix, can be diagnosed by a licensed HVAC contractor. The insulation in the attic, walls and/or basement (whichever may border the room) could be inadequate, missing or damaged.
Also, an air duct feeding cool air into the room could be damaged or broken, causing less cool air to reach the room. Many people have the misconception that their ceiling fans actually create cool air, when in reality, they simply move air through a room. Ceiling fans need to be
set to properly disperse air so that they effectively cool a room.
When the items mentioned above are in proper working order, it could be time to look at the HVAC system itself. Older units can wear down, parts can break and service can be required. Whatever the case, it’s important to keep a good eye on the performance of your systems. By performing
preventative maintenance and utilizing regular service calls, you can stay cool throughout the summer months and not have to worry.
