Ceiling Fan Use - Direction Matters
Most people in Metro Atlanta are gearing up for the upcoming summer, one which is sure to be a hot one. At this time of the year, we get all kinds of questions asking for ways to keep a home as cool as possible, for as little money as possible.
One thing to pay close attention to is the use of your ceiling fans. These devices have two settings: one which draws air upward and one which pushes air downward. It is important to note that there is a need to change the direction of the fan when the season changes.
During the warm summer months, you want as much air to be passed across the skin as possible. For this reason, you want the fan to be set to push air downward from the ceiling. Many people believe that a fan creates cool air, when in reality, it simply moves the air.
If you haven’t already done so, check the setting on your fan to see if it ready for the warmer months. An easy way to tell: stand under the fan; when the fan is properly set for warmer (summer) months, you’ll feel a breeze generated by the fan. You should note that your blades spin in a counter-clockwise motion.
Overall, this little action (when completed throughout your home) can help to lower energy bills.
